Heart Attack

By Jd Black

I died Oct. 19, 2002. Heart Attack. MI with VF. Fortunately the doctor was right there. Within 30 minutes all was well. And then, the pundits, the sages, the well-wishers and the procrastinators starting crawling out of the woodwork, full of advice, full of “Ya shoulda’s.”
What I have learned since my Heart Attack:
1. If I had taken an aspirin every day, I would never have had a heart attack.
2. If I had brushed with a Sonicare every day, I would never have had a heart attack.
3. If I had jumped on my trampoline 15 minutes every day, I would never have had a heart attack.
4. If I had lived in an agricultural village or a third-world country, I would never have had a heart attack.
5. If I hadn’t had such a high-stress job, I would never have had a heart attack.
6. If I had done 30 minutes of aerobics every day, I would never have had a heart attack.
7. If I had avoided milk, white sugar and white flour, I would never have had a heart attack.
8. If I had eaten more fish, I would never have had a heart attack.
9. If I had taken more salt, more calcium, and especially more magnesium, I would never have had a heart attack.
10. If I had been a vegetarian, I would never have had a heart attack.
11. If I had taken lots of garlic, and vitamins AC and E, I would never have had a heart attack.
12. If I had not been digging fence posts, I would never have had a heart attack.
13. If I had been more religious and faithful in my prayers, I would never have had a heart attack.
14. If I had drunk a gallon of water very day, I would never have had a heart attack.
15. If I had started drinking beer and wine, I would never have had a heart attack.
16. If I had planned a little better, and arranged for different ancestry, I would never have had a heart attack.
17. If I had changed my personality so I wasn’t so “type A,” I would never have had a heart attack.
18. If I had eaten 6 small meals a day, instead of one big one, I would never have had a heart attack.
19. If I had slept with a CPAP breathing machine at night, I would never have had a heart attack.
20. If I had been more passionate with my wife, more frequently, I would never have had a heart attack.
21. If I had lived 100 years earlier, I would never have had a heart attack, or, if I did, I would not have had to listen to anyone’s belated advice thereafter.
